The Complete Office Cleaning Checklist: Daily, Weekly & Monthly

How to use this checklist

Whether your team handles light cleaning in-house or you're auditing what your current vendor actually does, this checklist covers what a professional office program includes. Frequencies assume a typical five-day office; scale down for hybrid schedules and up for heavy traffic. If you're formalizing this into a vendor agreement, pair it with our scope of work template.

Daily (or each service visit)

  • Empty trash and recycling; replace liners
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms: toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, mirrors, dispensers
  • Restock paper products, soap and sanitizer
  • Wipe high-touch surfaces: door handles, light switches, elevator buttons, shared equipment
  • Vacuum carpet in traffic lanes and entrances
  • Sweep and damp-mop hard floors, including entryways
  • Wipe kitchen/breakroom counters, tables and sink; run or empty the dishwasher per office policy
  • Spot-clean entrance and interior glass at touch height
  • Reset conference rooms: tables wiped, chairs straightened, boards ready

Weekly

  • Full vacuum including edges, corners and under accessible furniture
  • Detail-dust desks, ledges, sills, picture frames and open shelving
  • Clean interior partition and door glass fully
  • Wipe appliance exteriors: refrigerator, microwaves, coffee stations
  • Disinfect phones, keyboards and shared peripherals where the office permits
  • Damp-wipe chairs and upholstery touchpoints; spot-treat new carpet stains

Monthly

  • High dusting: vents, returns, ceiling corners, tops of cabinets and partitions
  • Low dusting: baseboards, chair rails, behind accessible furniture
  • Machine-buff or burnish resilient floors where applicable
  • Deep-clean refrigerator interior (with office coordination)
  • Dust blinds and window treatments; clean interior window glass

Quarterly and seasonal

  • Carpet extraction in traffic lanes; full extraction annually or as needed — see commercial carpet cleaning
  • Hard-floor scrub-and-recoat or strip-and-finish cycles — see commercial floor care
  • Upholstery cleaning for meeting-room and reception seating
  • Winter (Maryland-specific): daily walk-off mat service and entry-floor attention while salt season runs — salt residue dulls and damages floor finish fast
  • Flu season: consider periodic electrostatic disinfection of shared spaces
